Miranda del Castañar is the oldest village of the Sierra de Francia. It’s located on a hill at an elevation of 649 m (2,129 fts) and close to the confluence of the Francia and San Benito rivers. This area is one of the natural passes from Extremadura to the Castilian plateau.
The village’s wall dates back to the 13th century and the Tower of Homage to the 15th century. The streets inside the wall keep the medieval street pattern and its manorial houses keep the lineage of their crests located on the façade.
